As a specialty field of the Clinical microbiology and infectious diseases; routine microbiologic laboratory studies and diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases are carried out by this department.

Besides providing service to the patients that apply with fever and/or other complaints (diarrhea, jaundice, rash, burning sensation during urination, sore throat, cough, fever, joint pain etc.) to our department are followed at polyclinic and hospital basis and also consultancy services are provided to the patients hospitalized in other departments. Except the routine patient examination in the polyclinic; adult vaccination, infection screening prior to organ transplantation,

Hepatitis and consulting services for prevention from other diseases before abroad vacations are given. Follow up and treatment of the infections in patients who are hospitalized in intensive care units and services are also provided by our department. The objective of the department is; providing early diagnosis and effective treatment with the aid of modern knowledge and technology to the patients with infection, to provide vaccination and prevention of infectious diseases such as; hepatitis, AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases etc. To minimize infection risk of the patients within the hospital environment.

CLINICAL MICROBIOLOGY

Clinic Microbiology Laboratory serves to patients who apply from polyclinic and hospitalized patients for 24 hours. During the stages of acceptance, process and resulting of the samples taken from patients to laboratory are performed according to total quality sensibility. All the antibiogram processes performed in our laboratory are made in accordance with the international recommendations updated every year. Bacteria culture, antibiogram tests, tuberculosis bacile staining, culture and sensitivity tests performed in our laboratory are tested each month regularly by an international external quality control system. There is also a Molecular Diagnosis Laboratory (PCR) within the microbiology laboratory where the viral tests are performed. Samples from other external clinics are accepted to our laboratory.

Tests performed in Microbiology Laboratory:

  • Direct or stained microscopic examinations
  • Aerob, anaerobe bacteria cultures
  • Blood cultures taken to automatized systems
  • Advanced bacteria typing and sensitivity tests
  • Fungal cultures, typing and sensitivity tests
  • Tuberculosis culture and sensitivity tests
  • Standard tube agglutination test (Wright test for Rubella)
  • Widal agglutination test (for Salmonella)
